Blue Sage
Salvia farinacea
A vivid blue sage beloved by bumblebees.
Easy to start from seed, deer-resistant, and beloved by bumblebees, this North American native sage has it all. A tender perennial found primarily growing in prairie ecosystems, Blue Sage thrives nearly anywhere with full sun and well-draining soil. Grown as an annual in colder climates (above zone 7), it produces stunning periwinkle-blue flowers the first year and will remain in flower over a long period of time.

Start indoors 8-10 weeks before last frost. Sow 1-2 seeds per pot, surface sowing as light aids in germination. Keep soil moist but not wet until seeds have germinated. Then, prevent sprouts from damping off by being sure not to over-water them. When seedlings have 1-2 sets of leaves, thin to 1 per pot. Transplant outdoors when there are 1-2 sets of true leaves. Sage prefers full sun and well drained soil.
