Tokyo Bekana
Brassica rapa
Microgreens Suitable
Does double duty as a baby leaf and loose Chinese cabbage.
Looking for a new green to add to your garden repertoire? Try Tokyo Bekana! Fast growing and tasty with crunchy stems. It resembles baby Chinese cabbage leaves at full size. May be grown successfully as cut-and-come-again, or thinned to grow to maturity for harvest as a bunching green. Mature heads can be used in stir fries, soups and other tasty cooked preparations.
Growing instructions
Direct sow when soil is workable in the spring under protection. Succession sow for continual harvest of baby leaves. Or thin baby leaves for salad and allow the remainder to grow to maturity. Does well for fall harvest as well. Spring sown crops must be harvested young to help prevent bolting. Will over-winter with protection and give greens through January at least.
