It's true—marshmallows did get their name from the mallow plant (though you're unlikely to see it in the ingredients list nowadays). That same gooey quality of the roots also makes it a traditional remedy for irritation in the throat and stomach. But though it's the roots that have given this perennial its claim to fame, we also love it for its pretty pale pink flowers.
