A flower without petals? That's right! The lustrous orange scales of the strawflower are actually bracts, a type of modified leaf. Striking to behold while in bloom, these bracts last an exceptionally long time when cut and dried, earning them their other name, golden everlasting. These hardy plants can tolerate fairly poor conditions and grow up to 3' in height.
