Heavenly Blue Morning Glory
Ipomoea tricolor
Conventionally Grown
A classic flower of late summer, in a celestial blue tone.
The morning glory's strong vines grow steadily–but require a framework of support to reach their maximum potential–and its glorious-yet-ephemeral blooms remind us to never take love or beauty for granted. And at its core is a seed that can adapt to any circumstance, self-sowing readily and thriving even in difficult soils. In fact, morning glories flower most when faced with distress: drought and low-nutrient soils lead to blooms in profusion. A late season bloomer-October in our region- the Heavenly Blue Morning Glory is a delightful pop of color in the Fall Garden.
Morning Glories are Day Length Sensitive and this variety begins blooming as the days shorten and the nights get longer.
Made exclusively for The Olana Partnership. Morning glories still bloom in Olana's historic Mingled Flower Garden. Olana is the masterwork of Frederic Church (1826-1900), preeminent American artist of the 19th century, and the most intact historic artist's environment in the United States.
