Epazote
Virtually unheard of throughout much of the world, epazote is a staple herb in many parts of Mexico and Guatemala, where it is used in bean dishes, tamales, and more. It has a strong, unusual flavor that those who are unaccustomed to it might describe as "medicinal," and with good reason. Also known as wormseed, it's long been used to expel intestinal worms, as well as treat other stomach and liver maladies. Epazote is a tenacious annual that can grow with very little moisture.
