Species Tulip bakeri 'Lilac Wonder'

Tulipa bakeri

This long-lived botanical tulip features soft lilac petals and a golden center that naturalizes easily in sunny garden spots.

Tulipa bakeri 'Lilac Wonder' is a botanical species tulip prized for its ability to naturalize and return reliably to the garden year after year. Reaching a modest height of six to eight inches, these vigorous wildflowers are a sturdy alternative to larger hybrids that often decline after their first season. In mid-spring, the mauve-pink petals respond to direct sunlight by opening wide to reveal a brilliant yellow center. This crocus-like habit makes them an exceptional choice for rock gardens, border edges, or tucked into small pockets of a landscape where their delicate features can be observed closely.

For the best performance, plant these bulbs in a spot that receives full sun and offers well-drained soil. Because they are hardy and persistent, they are happy to remain in the ground throughout the year, gradually establishing a permanent and charming presence in your landscape. Their petite stature and distinctive color palette provide a sophisticated wildflower aesthetic that signals the spring season with ease.

Growing instructions
Tulips do best in full sun in northern areas, but will tolerate light shade in hotter areas. They require a well-drained soil, with an ideal pH of 6.0 to 6.5. Water in well after planting, beyond that normal rainfall should be sufficient. Tulip bulbs should be kept cool until ready to plant; and planted in fall at least a month before the ground freezes. Follow the recommended planting depth per variety.
