Killarney Red Hardneck Garlic

Allium sativum

Certified Organic

A robust, easy-to-peel heirloom that thrives even in wetter soils, delivering a "gold standard" flavor that is both richly nutty and classicly spicy.

If you have ever struggled with garlic in a particularly soggy spring, Killarney Red might just be the hardy companion your garden needs. While most garlic varieties pined for drier feet, this robust Rocambole heirloom has proven to be an incredible performer in the Northeast, showing a unique resilience to damp conditions that would discourage lesser bulbs. It is a true garden beauty, producing impressively large heads wrapped in thin, papery skins of mahogany, purple, and bronze. For the home chef, these bulbs are a dream; the hefty cloves are loosely bundled around a central stalk, making them exceptionally easy to break apart and peel during a busy night in the kitchen.

In the world of flavor, Killarney Red is often cited as the gold standard. It offers a full-bodied, nutty richness that balances a mellow sweetness with a classic, spicy heat. Because it is a mid-season harvester with a medium storage life, we recommend enjoying your bounty throughout the autumn months—it’s the perfect choice for hearty Thanksgiving roasts. Just be sure to set aside your largest, most vibrant cloves to tuck back into the soil for the following year, as this high-yielding variety quickly becomes a permanent fixture in the garden landscape.

With 6-10 plump cloves per head, heads range from white to white with a purple blush. Stores well, up to 6 months if handled properly after harvest.

Grown Organically our own Four Fold Farm in Accord, NY.

Garlic is sold in pound quantities. There are typically 50-60 cloves per pound; each clove successfully grown will produce a full bulb the following year. One pound of hardneck garlic can plant between 20-30 feet and will yield about 5 times that amount.

Please note that Garlic and Shallots are excluded from our Free Shipping Offer.

Hardneck Garlic stores for 4-5 months and therefore must be planted by late October. No refunds will be issued for Hardneck Garlic varieties AFTER October 31st.
