Burgundy Okra
Abelmoschus esculentus
Certified Organic
This summer delight is a standout.
A standout in any garden, these striking plants give a tropical flair wherever they are planted. The plants have striking red-veined leaves and hibiscus-like blossoms in buttery yellow. The fruit is a gorgeous deep burgundy hue. Excellent in curries, stir fries, and gumbo!
Growing instructions
Okra is extremely intolerant of cold. Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost and transplant outdoors after all threat of frost has passed. Some gardeners give okra a heat boost by covering it with row cover until it produces flowers. Okra can thrive in moderate soils. Keep watered, but allow to dry out between waterings. Harvest pods while still tender, up to 5-6" in length.
