Grown on Our Farm
A butterhead type that grows happily in spring and fall.
More and more home gardeners are learning to grow year round. Having fresh green grub in the winter is an achievable treat with the right cold-hardy varieties. This lime green lettuce can be grown in the fall and survive winter with minimal cover. As the light decreases and cold increases it pretty much stops growing but manages to recover, and then thrive on the backside of winter.
Growing instructions
Sow indoors beginning 8-10 weeks before last frost, or direct sow beginning about 4 weeks before last frost. Harvest late spring and summer sowings promptly to beat bolting. Continue sowing until about 2 weeks before first fall frost. During its growth phases, lettuce likes steady (but not excessive) moisture and can become prematurely bitter during dry spells; keep irrigated for best-tasting leaves.
