Tulip 'Akebono'
Buttery yellow, blousy blooms with coral-edged petals.

'Akebono' means "daybreak" in Japanese and the name is fitting: These buttery yellow, blousy blooms produce coral-edged petals reminiscent of dawn's first light on the horizon. Outer petals are marked with an occasional raspberry blush and the flowers are sweetly scented. Reaches 22" tall.

Tulips do best in full sun in northern areas, but will tolerate light shade in hotter areas. They require a well-drained soil, with an ideal pH of 6.0 to 6.5. Water in well after planting, beyond that normal rainfall should be sufficient. Tulip bulbs should be kept cool until ready to plant; and planted in fall at least a month before the ground freezes.
